Glossary
The terms CitationBooster.com uses in its reports, each defined on its own in a few sentences.
Citation slot
#A citation slot is a position in a Google AI Overview held by a cited source. An Overview that names five sources has five slots. Holding one means your page is named and linked in the answer the searcher reads.
Citation gap
#A citation gap is a point your page makes that Google's AI Overview skipped, even though it cites the page. The page earned a slot, but that one point did not earn a mention.
Example
Your page is cited for a query about freelancer CRMs, but the Overview's pricing point comes from a competitor's page instead.
Selection gap
#A selection gap is when a page ranks for a query but Google's AI Overview does not choose it as a source. The page is visible in the results and missing from the answer.
Extraction gap
#An extraction gap is content that exists on your page but cannot be lifted as a self-contained passage. The answer is there, yet it depends on the paragraphs around it, so an engine cannot quote it alone.
Example
A paragraph that opens with 'This is why' needs the one before it. Rewritten to open with the answer, it can be quoted on its own.
Vulnerable slot
#A vulnerable slot is a citation slot held by a source weak enough to displace: thin, out of date, or only partly on topic. It is the most realistic place for a new page to win a citation.
Example
A cited page last updated in 2021, with no sources of its own, holding a slot in a 2026 answer.
Anchor
#An anchor is the real heading or sentence in your article that a drafted paragraph attaches to. Each suggested paragraph names its anchor, so you know exactly where it goes.
Expert Note
#An Expert Note is an open question CitationBooster.com asks the author of the article. It asks and never answers for you, so the first-hand detail in the final copy is yours.
